It is aimed at people who have problems with the lymphatic system (mainly lymphedema). It is a massage that requires many specialization seminars as it has many difficulties and details. In lymphatic massage, the physiotherapist uses specific movements and techniques with his hands (usually in a gentle manner), which bring relief to the recipient. These movements have specific sequences, selected directions and adapted pressures.
The lymphatic system consists of lymph vessels and lymph nodes through which lymphatic fluid or lymph circulates.
A problem in any part of the lymphatic system usually causes swelling, which gets worse the longer it is not treated. This is where lymphatic massage therapy comes in, which reduces swelling, improves circulation, and provides relief.
Lymphatic system problems are usually due to serious diseases (cancer, surgical removal of lymph nodes, congenital anomalies) but also in many other cases.
Lymphatic massage, in addition to relieving the lymphatic system (mainly due to the reduction of edema), also helps to generally stimulate the body as more toxins are eliminated and the muscles and joints closest to the edema are calmed and relaxed.
Overall, lymphatic massage reduces local or generalized inflammation and strengthens the body's immune system. Thus, as a natural consequence, the body's functions and defenses at all levels are relieved.
Due to the many details of the lymphatic system, performing proper lymphatic massage (MLD) requires many specialized seminars lasting several days (approximately 20 in total) for the physiotherapist to specialize in its effective application.
Heraklion Massage Center collaborates with a specialized physiotherapist who has attended this series of seminars and has been involved in lymphatic massage for several years.
